 The Morkie is a designer breed that is created by combining the foundation breeds of the Maltese and the Yorkshire Terrier.  This designer breed is thought to have its origin in the United States and at one time was referred to as a Yorktese but today is simply known as the Morkie.

The Morkie is a designer breed that is recognized and registered by the International Designer Canine Registry

 


As with many purebred dogs, the size of some designer dog breeds can vary from individual to individual but one can expect the average size of a Morkie to be approximately: Height 8 to 15 inches and an average weight of 6 to 13 pounds.

 


The Morkie typically has a coat that is silky, fine and straight.  The coat of the Morkie is generally long.  The Morkie is a designer breed that can come in a variety of colors such as black, tan, cream, white , sable and various combinations of those colors. 

 


The coat of this designer breed requires regular brushing and should be bathed when necessary.

 


Partially due to the terrier in its background the Morkie can be spirited and energetic.  Your typical Morkie is sweet in nature and with a lively personality.

This designer breed tends to be very devoted to its family and enjoys spending time with them.   The Morkie is an intelligent and curious dog that thrives on human companionship.

 


The Morkie is affectionate and sweet in nature with their family and enjoy frequent interaction with their family members. 

This designer breed tends to do well with other dogs as well as other non-canine pets if properly socialized.  



As with all dogs care should be given that Morkies are properly socialized as puppies.  The Morkie is an intelligent dog and but can be a bit stubborn at times.  Firmness and consistency are the key to successful training. 
 


The Morkie is happiest when they are with their family.  This breed is an excellent  companion dog that readily adapts to its family's lifestyle and is well suited for apartment living. 

This designer breed enjoys daily walks and play time.  Daily exercise is recommended.
