The Labradoodle is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and Standard or Miniature Poodle. The Labradoodle is a designer breed that can trace its origin back to Wally Cochran of the Royal Guide Dogs in Victoria, Australia.
The Labradoodle was developed and intended to be a service dog for the hearing and visually impaired and serve man primarily as Guide dogs. Part of the goal was to create a dog with the Labrador’s characteristic obedience and versatility and the Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat.
Like many "Designer Breeds", the Labradoodle has enjoyed marked increase in popularity
over the last couple of years. Due partially to their remarkable breed characteristics today Labradoodles can be found the homes of many noteworthy celebrities and famous athletes such as golfer Tiger Woods, actresses Jennifer Aniston, and Barbara Eden the star of "I Dream of Jeannie".
Another sign of this Designer Breeds ever increasing popularity was the inclusion of the word "Labradoodle" in the Oxford English Dictionary, a Labradoodle figurine in the "Here and Now" edition of the board game "Monopoly", and the award winning "Lucky the Incredible Wonder Pup" a animated toy Labradoodle.

Labradoodle can come in a unique range of sizes, there are typically three different sizes of Labradoodles, depending upon the size of the foundation parent dogs. The three different sizes of the Labradoodle are miniature, medium and standard.
Labradoodles resulting from crosses with Toy Poodles are smaller than those resulting from crosses with Miniature or Standard Poodles.
Miniature Labradoodle: Approximate weight is 22 to 33 lbs and the height is 12 to 16 inches.
Medium Labradoodle: The approximate weight is 33 to 43 lbs and the height is 17 to 20 inches.
Standard Labradoodle: The weight is 44 to 88 lbs and the height is 21 to 24 inches at the highest point on the shoulder area.

Labradoodle coats may combine various aspects of the Poodle and that of the Labrador Retriever. The coat of the Labradoodle usually contains any of three coat types: A tight curly coat, a medium curl and a somewhat flat coat. The coat of a Quality Labradoodle usually has a fair amount of curl and is dense and soft in texture.
Labradoodle puppies are born in wide assortment of solid colors such as chocolate, red black, tan, white and cream or the coat can be multi-colored consisting of black, white, cream, tan, or a combination of colors. Some of the more common Labradoodle coat color combinations are golden blonde, solid black and chocolate. A variety of coat colors and textures can appear in the same litter.
Labradoodles are known for their low shedding and
hypoallergenic coat traits. It is a common belief that the Labradoodle is
safer for highly allergic persons than many purebred breeds.
