Goldendoodle Breed Characteristics
                                                                                    



 


The Goldendoodle is a very popular designer breed that is recognized and registered by the International Designer Canine Registry.

The Goldendoodle is a cross between the Golden Retriever and a Standard or Miniature Poodle. 

The Goldendoodle is a designer breed that it is believed to have been first created in North America
in the mid 1990s as a larger variety of the ever popular Cockapoo

One of the goals was to create a dog with the Golden Retriever's characteristic loyal and intelligent  disposition while maintaining the Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat.

Most Goldendoodles have non or light shedding coats and ability to live with families with allergies has made them very popular. 

Like many "Designer Breeds", the Goldendoodle has enjoyed a great deal of popularity over the last couple of years. 



Goldendoodles come in a unique range of sizes, there are typically three different sizes of Goldendoodles, depending upon the size of the foundation parent dogs. 

The three different sizes of the Goldendoodle are miniature, medium and standard. 

Goldendoodles resulting from crosses with Toy Poodles are smaller than those resulting from crosses with Miniature or Standard Poodles. 

Miniature Goldendoodle:  Approximate weight is 22 to 33 lbs and the height is 12 to 16 inches.

Medium Goldendoodle:  The approximate weight is 33 to 43 lbs and the height is 17 to 20 inches. 

Standard Goldendoodle:  The weight is 44 to 88 lbs and the height is 21 to 24 inches at the highest point on the shoulder area.

 


Goldendoodle coats may combine various aspects of the Poodle and that of the Golden Retriever.  The coat of the Goldendoodle usually contains any of three coat types: A tight curly coat, a medium curl and a somewhat flat coat.  

The coat of a quality Goldendoodle usually  has a fair amount of curl and is dense and soft in texture. 

Goldendoodle puppies are born in wide assortment of solid colors such as cream or golden blonde, red, tan, white and cream or the coat can be multi-colored consisting of black, white, cream, tan, or a combination of colors. 

Some of the more common Goldendoodle coat color combinations are golden blonde, and chocolate.  A variety of coat colors and textures can appear in the same litter.

Goldendoodles are known for their low shedding and
hypoallergenic coat traits.  It is a common belief that the Goldendoodle is safer for highly allergic persons than many purebred breeds. 

Quite often people who suffer from severe allergies to pet dander and animal fur can own a designer breed such as a
Goldendoodle without any allergy complications or side affects.



The Goldendoodle is a designer breed that sheds very modestly, however the coat does require regular grooming and brushing.

 


Goldendoodles are known for their pleasing disposition, loyalty and intelligence. 

The Goldendoodle is active, outgoing and eager for human companionship and attention. 

The Goldendoodle fits well into the family environment and enjoys interaction with its human family members. 

This designer breed thrives on human attention and enjoys outdoor activities and exercise. 




The Goldendoodle has a kind disposition making it an ideal family dog. 

The Goldendoodle is designer breed that does well with children and is usually gentle and affectionate making it an excellent family dog. 

Goldendoodles make exceptional companions for the elderly.




The Goldendoodle is highly intelligent and eager to please their owners.  This designer breed is extremely confident and inquisitive.  

Goldendoodles learn quickly, which makes training a simple task.  Many Goldendoodles are able to learn a wide variety of task and unusual tricks. 

Early training is usually a good idea for all puppies.



The Goldendoodle is an active designer breed that enjoys a moderate amount of exercise such as a daily walk or playtime in a fenced-in yard. 

Most Goldendoodles take to water with great enthusiasm and enjoy swimming frequently.
